S5W-00721: Alison Johnstone (Lothian)

Scottish Green Party

Date lodged: 13 June 2016

To ask the Scottish Government, further to the comment by Michael Matheson on 10 June 2016 in the news release, Tackling hate crime, that "I have asked Scottish football to take further steps to address this long-standing issue and I expect to see progress on this imminentlyā€¯, whether it will provide a breakdown of the steps that it has asked the football authorities to take.

Answered by: Michael Matheson 22 June 2016

The Scottish Government has made it clear that unacceptable conduct and the disorder that marred the 2016 Scottish Cup Final has no place in football.

We expect our football authorities and clubs to proactively take action to swiftly develop and deliver their own robust solution to address unacceptable conduct. This remains our preferred solution, and we are working constructively with the authorities and clubs to achieve this.

We have not prescribed what action must be taken.
