S5W-01846: Tavish Scott (Shetland Islands)

Scottish Liberal Democrats

Date lodged: 9 August 2016

To ask the Scottish Government how much (a) it and (b) each local authority has spent on supply teachers in each year since 2010-11.

Answered by: John Swinney 18 August 2016

We are working with our partners in local government and teacher organisations through the Scottish Negotiating Committee for Teachers to establish a national system through which councils can more easily source and book supply teachers when cover is required, thus maximising existing supply resources and minimising costs for local authorities.

The information requested is not collated centrally. Supply teachers are employed by each individual local authority, depending on their local needs and circumstances throughout the year.
