S5W-02346: Tavish Scott (Shetland Islands)

Scottish Liberal Democrats

Date lodged: 6 September 2016

To ask the Scottish Government what its plans are to increase funding for university places through the Scottish Funding Council.

Answered by: Shirley-Anne Somerville 20 September 2016

The Scottish Government is committed to ensuring that investment in the higher education sector supports the excellence of our world-class universities and enables greater equity in access to a university education. Through the Scottish Funding Council, we have invested in excess of £1 billion in Scotland’s higher education sector each year for the last four years, and will invest more than £1 billion in 2016-17. Scottish Government Ministers and officials engage regularly with higher education sector partners and the Scottish Funding Council, including in relation to preparation for the forthcoming Spending Review.
