S5W-02568: Rachael Hamilton (South Scotland)

Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

Date lodged: 9 September 2016

To ask the Scottish Government how it proposes to reduce the number of people who develop heart disease.

Answered by: Shona Robison 23 September 2016

We know that a significant proportion of cardiovascular disease (CVD) is preventable and influenced by modifiable health behaviours. The Scottish Government is taking decisive action to address alcohol consumption, reduce smoking rates, encourage active living and healthy eating.

The prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the six priorities identified in the Scottish Government’s Heart Disease Improvement Plan (2014), through which we are aiming to provide care which is responsive to the needs of the people of Scotland.
