S5W-03724: Richard Lyle (Uddingston and Bellshill)

Scottish National Party

Date lodged: 13 October 2016

To ask the Scottish Government for what reason sound-proofing barriers have not been installed as part of the M8 M73 M74 Improvement Plan near (a) the M74 and (b) residential houses.

Answered by: Keith Brown 31 October 2016

Where these assessments found that the predicted change in noise levels (as a consequence of the project) was to be less than one decibel, properties are not eligible for mitigation in accordance with relevant national road design standards and legislation. Where the assessment predicted a change in noise level greater than one decibel, noise mitigation was provided.

The environmental assessments undertaken as part of the development of the M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements Project considered the change in traffic noise level expected as a result of the project and consequently any requirement for noise mitigation measures.
