S5W-04695: Richard Lyle (Uddingston and Bellshill)

Scottish National Party

Date lodged: 28 November 2016

To ask the Scottish Government from which budget the provision of acoustic barrier fencing on roads is funded.

Answered by: Keith Brown 7 December 2016

The Transportation Noise Action Plan identifies Candidate Noise Management areas (CNMAs) across the existing major road asset. Each CNMA will be reviewed to determine if it should become a Noise Management Area (NMA). NMAs are locations where noise management interventions could be applied on a prioritised basis during existing maintenance and improvement programmes, where reasonably practicable. Budget provision would come from the maintenance and improvement programme.

If an Environmental Statement for a major road construction scheme identified noise as a potentially significant environmental issue, a noise management solution such as an acoustic barrier fence would be provided by the major road scheme.
