S5W-04917: Alexander Stewart (Mid Scotland and Fife)

Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

Date lodged: 22 November 2016

To ask the Scottish Government whether ocular melanoma patients can be offered MRI scans with contrast to detect metastasis and, if so, who is responsible for deciding whether to offer this.

Answered by: Shona Robison 7 December 2016

These are individual clinical decisions made following discussion between clinicians and patients.

Current guidance suggests that there is currently insufficient evidence on the benefits of the use of MRI scanning for the detection and treatment of metastatic disease in people with ocular melanoma.
