Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

Date lodged: 25 November 2016

To ask the Scottish Government what its response is to the finding in the Family and Childcare Trust’s Older People’s Care Survey 2016, which suggests that the average period of time it takes a self-funder to use up savings on care across the UK is seven years and seven months, compared with four years and 10 months in Scotland.

The Family and Childcare Trust's publication shows that the average weekly cost of residential care in Scotland is broadly in line with the UK average, taking into account the difference in average house prices.

Furthermore, around 10,000 self-funders in residential care in Scotland receive free personal care payments of £171 per week.
