S5W-07658: Kezia Dugdale (Lothian)

Scottish Labour

Date lodged: 1 March 2017

To ask the Scottish Government what plans it has to review how adoptions by same sex couples are recorded on updated birth certificates.

Answered by: Fiona Hyslop 9 March 2017

There are at present no plans to review how adoptions by same sex couples are recorded on ‘updated birth certificates’ (i.e. official extracts from the statutory Adopted Children Register). The headings for parents on such extracts ('Mother/Parent' and 'Father/Parent') allow for designations which fit the circumstances of parents in both opposite and same sex relationships.
