S5W-08429: Sandra White (Glasgow Kelvin)

Scottish National Party

Date lodged: 27 March 2017

To ask the Scottish Government what its response is to reports of a rise in the HIV infection rate in Glasgow.

Answered by: Aileen Campbell 18 April 2017

We are aware of the rise in HIV rates in Glasgow which is primarily related to an ongoing outbreak in relation to injecting drug users. This incident is being managed by a multi-agency Incident Management Team, which involves relevant stakeholders including Health Protection Scotland and third sector organisations, led by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. This Team has put in place a number of bespoke measures to address this outbreak. In addition to this the Scottish Government supports preventative measures, such as funding for the Scottish Drugs Forum to improve the quality of interventions to drug users at risk of infection and to increase the preparedness of frontline services, user groups and the third sector to respond to outbreaks of infection among drug users.
