To ask the Scottish Government what plans it has to develop future district heating projects for the (a) owner-occupied sector, (b) social-rented sector and (c) private-rented sector.

Earlier this year, we consulted with stakeholders and the public on regulation to support the development of the district heating sector and to consider consumer issues. (Link to consultation and responses: https://consult.scotland.gov.uk/energy-and-climate-change-directorate/local-heat-and-energy-efficiency). We intend to publish a further, more detailed consultation before the end of the year in order to further develop our regulatory framework and this will inform relevant sections of the finalised Energy Strategy, due for publication by the end of December.

The Scottish Government will continue to encourage appropriately-sited, low carbon, affordable district heating in all sectors where cost effective to do so. There are a number of Scottish Government support schemes in place including:
