Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

Date lodged: 27 October 2017

To ask the Scottish Government what plans it has to reduce the hours lost to absence among staff at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Answered by: Shona Robison 9 November 2017

We are clear that the welfare of NHS staff is critically important, every Health Board is required to have policies in place and to comply with national Partnership Information Network (PIN) polices on managing health at work, which includes mental health and wellbeing. The Scottish Government continues to support boards to actively address the sickness absence challenge. We are reviewing the NHSScotland Managing Health at Work and Promoting Attendance policies, to address underlying issues and ensure that supporting mechanisms are in place for staff.

NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde has a Mental Health Strategy and Stress at Work Policy which provides a policy platform for supporting staff who experience both work and non-work related mental health issues.
