S5W-12281: Bill Bowman (North East Scotland)

Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

Date lodged: 31 October 2017

To ask the Scottish Government what assessmentĀ it hasĀ made of health problems among homeless people, and what change in outcomes has been observed in the last five years.

Answered by: Aileen Campbell 8 November 2017

There is a large body of evidence on the negative impacts on health and wellbeing of homelessness.

NHS Health Scotland hosts the National Health and Homelessness Group, which includes representation from national and local government; the health sector, including public health, primary care, oral health and psychology; housing; welfare; academia; and homelessness charities. This group was established to support implementation of the opportunities identified in the Scottish Public Health Network (ScotPHN) report, Restoring the public health response to homelessness in Scotland (2015), and continues to identify new opportunities for homelessness prevention as well as its mitigation.
