S5W-13201: Michelle Ballantyne (South Scotland)

Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

Date lodged: 7 December 2017

To ask the Scottish Government how many health visitors there are; what progress it is making with its plan to employ an additional 500, and by what date they will be in post.

Answered by: Shona Robison 19 December 2017

Workforce data on Health Visitors is published quarterly by ISD Scotland and is available from March 2015 onwards at the workforce statistics web site:- https://www.isdscotland.org/Health-Topics/Workforce/Publications/2017-12-05/Health_Visitors_S2017.xls.

Health Visitors were part of a recent review of community nurses data. Therefore, information on the Health Visitor workforce after March 2015 is not comparable with previous years.

We have engaged continuously with all Health Boards since the commitment to the delivery of the additional 500 Health Visitors in place by the end of December 2018 was made. The information provided to date suggests we are on track to meet this commitment.
