S5O-02125: Mary Fee (West Scotland)

Scottish Labour

Date lodged: 16 May 2018

To ask the Scottish Government what action it is taking to increase the number of female STEM apprentices in West Scotland.

Answered by: Jamie Hepburn 23 May 2018

Between 2014-15 and 2016-17, there has been an 18% increase in the number of Female starts in STEM related Modern Apprenticeships in the Skills Development Scotland West of Scotland Career Information and Guidance area.

Through implementation of Developing the Young Workforce, Skills Development Scotland continues to prioritise STEM as part of Apprenticeship contracting arrangements. Our STEM strategy also prioritises the expansion of the apprenticeship family to reflect labour market demand.
