Date lodged: 29 August 2018

To ask the Scottish Government what impact a no-deal Brexit could have on international festivals and events in Scotland.

Answered by: Fiona Hyslop 6 September 2018

A ‘no-deal’ Brexit’ is extremely irresponsible and would have significant economic and social costs for the UK as a whole, as well major implications for our international festivals and events. The least damaging option for the UK would be to have continued membership of the European Single Market and Customs Union.

I am concerned a no-deal may result in restrictions and costs when bringing talent and productions from the EU, as well as our ability to retaining and attract talent to Scotland. I made these points directly to the UK Secretary of State for Digital, Culture Media and Sport when I had a meeting with him on 23 August.
