S5W-15719: Jamie Greene (West Scotland)

Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

Date lodged: 3 April 2018

To ask the Scottish Government what information it has on the estimated number of syringes that have washed up on Scottish shores in each year since 2012.

Answered by: Roseanna Cunningham 19 April 2018

The Scottish Government does not hold this information centrally.

The Marine Conservation Society's annual Beachwatch programme surveys beach litter. Its 2017 report identified 0.2% of UK beach litter was medical. That included syringes along with other medical items.
