S5W-18016: Maurice Golden (West Scotland)

Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party

Date lodged: 3 August 2018

To ask the Scottish Government what preparations it is making to increase non-landfill treatment capacity in order to comply with the ban on the disposal of biodegradable municipal waste starting in January 2021.

Answered by: Roseanna Cunningham 28 August 2018

An additional 795kt incineration capacity, over and above that which currently exists, will be operational in Scotland by the start of 2021. A further 385kt is expected to become operational in the year following the ban. We continue to keep developments in the sector under review and are commissioning a waste markets study to consider future requirements.
